I could see the reason they did this though. It was a very hot day, so they were both annoyed and bored, which isn't a very good combination. Making fun of us was probably emptying their annoyance into us, and since my friend kept taking the bait, they weren't so bored anymore.
I think that this quote best resembles the ASTI constitution because it shows how to be empathetic. The ASTI constitution says " Strive to understand where other people are coming from; be empathetic". This quote from the ASTI constitution was found on the Sutherland U Alameda blog. Jesse's quote best explains how he understood the reason for these bullies' actions towards his friends. Jesse describes that due to the fact that the day was hot and the bullies were bored, the environment was perfect to bully these guys. Jesse was trying to understand why the bullies were acting the way they were. In trying to understand where they were coming from, he showed empathy. He tried to put himself in their shoes and by doing so deflect their bullying. Another way this quote relates to the ASTI constitution is to take responsibility for your actions and words. Jesse clearly did not want to get into a big jumble with the bullies, unlike his other friend, who jumped right into battle and fought those mean bullies. In some ways, I can see his friends' point of view. If it were me, I would have done the same as him; where you would defend yourself immediately. However, the bully can perceive this as a threat and thus become more aggressive. Sometimes standing up to a bully stops the aggression, especially if the bully is just doing it to look "cool" in front of his/her friends. I do not understand why people would bully each other. Anyway, Jesse's reason for writing this quote was to describe bullying from the perspective of the victum. So, overall, these quotes resemble the ASTI constitution.
